Psoriasis is a common chronic ailment that is hereditary and not contagious. The condition usually results in rashes on the skin and the cause is excessive growth of skin cells and inflammation of the skin. Psoriasis may have more symptoms than skin lesions, but with skin care, one can help alleviate the pain of the skin rash. The rash can happen anywhere on the whole body, but usually occurs on the elbows, knees, lower back and scalp, and can flare up over periods and vary in intensity between individuals.
The most common form of psoriasis appears as a round, red, scaly rash a few centimetres across. Look for reparative botanical ingredients such as lotus extracts that immediately soothe irritations. Date extract renews and refills the skin's moisture reserves. Beeswax and petrolatum have beneficial properties as they form a blocking, protective film on the skin, preventing moisture loss and protecting against potentially irritating substances. Other ingredients to look out for are vitamin D and tamanu oil, which relieve dry and flaky skin.
