Because the skin under the eyes lacks sebaceous glands and is also very thin, it becomes more easily dehydrated. Dry skin under the eyes can lead to eczema, pimples and early signs of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles. An eye cream adapted to this particular area softens and protects the thin skin, so as to counteract dryness. A daily UV protection for the eye area also helps to prevent dehydration and sun damage. It is especially common during the winter for the skin to become dry and itchy. A gentle moisturising cream for the eye area, with ingredients such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid, can strengthen damaged skin barrier, reduce dryness and also help smooth out fine lines.
Eye cream can be used morning and evening. Remember to customise the choice of product for your particular skin. Choose something more caring and richer at night and lighter and cooler during the day to reduce swelling and other signs of fatigue. Every now and again it can be beneficial to give yourself an intensive treatment with an eye mask. Bear in mind that you only need a small amount of eye cream per application – about the amount of a grain of rice. Pat gently and avoid stretching the skin.
